Why Airbnb Horror Hosts Make Haunted Hotels Look Cozy
Airbnb Horror Hosts are the reason your relaxing getaway now requires therapy. You arrive expecting a charming “rustic loft” and instead get a mildew-scented panic room with a “quirky” lock that requires a séance to open. The host? A guy named Rick who lives in the basement and “occasionally practices saxophone at dawn.”
These hosts have rules longer than the U.S. Constitution and less fun. “No shoes, no loud breathing, no microwaving fish, no eye contact with the cat unless he initiates.” One guest reported getting a 3-star review because they “folded the throw blanket incorrectly.” Another was charged $45 for “dishwasher emotional damage.”
In a fictional review aggregator called StayScream, 78% of guests said the house was “technically clean, emotionally hostile.” One woman found surveillance cameras hidden inside a ceramic owl labeled “Greg.” Another host greeted guests with a welcome binder titled “Don’t Touch Anything.”
Airbnb Horror Hosts believe they’re innkeepers, life coaches, and parole officers all in one. The only thing scarier than the nightlight that flickers in Morse code is their 3-paragraph texts reminding you to refill the Brita. Next time? Just book a haunted hotel. At least the ghosts have better customer service.
