In a fictional identity inflation report by the Institute of Mass-Produced Uniqueness, 87% of these “one-of-a-kind” folks shared at least four of the same interests, phrases, and anxieties as their friend groups. The other 13% were busy updating their bios with “chaotic neutral” and “child of the moon.” One woman claimed she “doesn’t vibe with categories,” then categorized herself in six ways before dessert.
Being yourself is great. But if your whole personality hinges on rejecting the mainstream while bathing in its runoff, maybe reflect. You’re not like other people–you’re exactly like the people who say that. And that’s okay. Just don’t make it a t-shirt.
