These eco-theater kids treat the blue bin like a confessional booth. One guy gave a speech at brunch about composting, then threw his biodegradable fork into the regular trash “because the bin was far.” Another woman hosted a recycling tutorial on TikTok while drinking from a plastic cup wrapped in emotional contradiction.
In a fictional sustainability audit by the Bureau of Branded Conscience, 82% of performative recyclers said they do it “for awareness.” The other 18% were still figuring out what counts as cardboard. One man wore a shirt that said “Recycling Is Sexy” and drove a Hummer to his climate panel. He parked in a bike lane.
Caring about the Earth is crucial. But if your eco-ethics end where convenience begins, maybe skip the virtue signal and actually rinse your damn containers. The planet doesn’t need hashtags. It needs follow-through–and less glitter on your reusable straw case.
