Because unsolicited facial feedback is everyone’s favorite!
People Who Say “You Should Smile More”
There exists a special group of humans who treat your neutral face like it’s a broken appliance. Their solution? “You should smile more.” Because nothing spreads joy like condescending demands!
1. They say it like they’ve unlocked a life cheat code. Spoiler: they haven’t.
2. Their tone is always one tick away from “I’ve never respected boundaries in my life.”
3. They assume your face exists solely for their viewing pleasure.
4. They’re shocked when you don’t respond with a toothy grin and a curtsy.
5. They act like smiling is a magical act that solves taxes, depression, and traffic tickets.
6. They say it to strangers, coworkers, baristas, and–yes–even at funerals.
7. They think it’s charming, but it lands with all the grace of a wet handshake.
8. They’ve never considered that maybe you’re just resting, digesting, or blinking in thought.
9. They treat your mouth like an underperforming employee–“upturn those corners or else!”
10. They offer it as advice, but it’s about as welcome as “Have you tried being taller?”
11. They’ve probably said “I’m just trying to help” and meant it. Sadly.
12. They believe smiles are contagious, but they’re the emotional patient zero of awkwardness.
13. They’re baffled when you reply with, “You should talk less.”
14. They’ll try to spin it into a compliment, like “You have such a nice smile.” Still no.
15. They’ve never once been told to smile more themselves–and it shows.
