Because “I feel your energy” is usually followed by “…so what did your ex *really* say?”
People Who Describe Themselves As Empaths But Are Actually Just Nosy
Empaths. The kind, intuitive souls who feel your pain, your joy, and your unread group texts. Or at least that’s what they say… right before casually asking, “So what happened between you and your sister-in-law in 2019?”
1. They insist they “just know things,” but their real superpower is eavesdropping behind a potted plant.
2. They start every sentence with “Not to pry, but ” and then proceed to excavate your entire trauma archive.
3. They interpret your silence as “a cry for help” when you were literally just trying to enjoy your latte in peace.
4. They always say “I could feel something was off with you”–yeah, probably because they read your diary while you were in the bathroom.
5. They’ll ask “How are you *really*?” in a tone that implies you’re legally obligated to tell them everything since birth.
6. They own more crystals than friends.
7. They once ruined a baby shower by declaring someone’s “energy” was chaotic and “tinged with secrets.”
8. They can cry on command, especially if it’s a strategy to get you to open up about your ex’s new girlfriend.
9. They mistake gossip for clairvoyance. “I didn’t hear it from anyone–I just FELT that she cheated on her taxes.”
10. They treat therapy like a competitive sport and always want to compare emotional wounds.
11. They claim to have been an empath since childhood, right after guessing your mom’s maiden name.
12. They somehow always know when your coworker is going through a divorce, despite having never met them.
13. They use “emotional labor” as an excuse to skip real labor, like helping you move.
14. They call it “tuning into your vibe,” but it’s really just stalking your Venmo feed.
15. They always say “I’m just really sensitive to energy,” right after interrupting your breakup story to talk about their cat’s Reiki session.
