Sleep Tracker Obsession

Why Sleep Tracker Obsession Is the New Insomnia

Sleep Tracker Obsession has turned bedtime into a competitive sport. These are the people who wake up groggy, look at their smartwatch, and say, “Huh, it says I got a 94% sleep efficiency score,” as they spill coffee into their cereal. They no longer dream–just download charts about their REM cycles and micro-wake-ups with the fervor of someone decoding stock prices.

One man bragged that he got 42 minutes of deep sleep like it was a personal best. A woman canceled brunch because her sleep ring said she was “emotionally vulnerable.” In a fictional poll conducted by a pillow app, 65% of users admitted their sleep got worse after tracking it–but their self-righteousness improved tenfold.

These obsessives now judge others by sleep scores. “You only got 5 hours? Yikes. That’s like emotional shoplifting.” They treat naps like tax write-offs and refuse to stay out past 9:30 in case it ruins their sleep histogram. One guy claimed his sleep app told him to break up with his girlfriend–and he did.

Ironically, the more they track, the less they sleep. But hey, at least they can proudly post color-coded graphs of their 3 a.m. existential crisis. In the end, they may be exhausted–but they’ve got data, baby. And that’s all that matters in the quantified dreamscape.
