Because nothing says “bonding in nature” like a 42-minute rendition of “Wonderwall.”
People Who Bring Acoustic Guitars to Group Camping Trips
Camping: the fresh air, the crackling fire, the stars–and the sudden realization that Chad brought his guitar again. Uninvited. Like ticks, but louder.
1. They always say, “I just brought it in case the vibe is right.” The vibe is never right, Chad.
2. They spend half the hike making sure their guitar case doesn’t touch anything but still fall into the creek.
3. No one asked for music, but here we are listening to “Blackbird” for the fourth consecutive night.
4. Their tuning session lasts longer than the song itself. “Give me a sec, I just need to recalibrate my E string.”
5. They claim to “just jam,” but somehow it’s always “Wagon Wheel” on repeat until your marshmallow burns in protest.
6. They say “music is a universal language,” but yours is a scream muffled by a sleeping bag.
7. Someone always claps off-beat, but Guitar Guy says, “Just feel it, man.” We feel regret.
8. They start strumming at 7 a.m. because “the birds inspired them.” So did your rage.
9. They offer guitar lessons around the fire but only know four chords. Two of which are wrong.
10. They play sad songs until someone starts crying. Then they say, “This is healing.” No, this is trauma.
11. You brought trail mix. They brought emotional baggage and a capo.
12. The case is decorated in stickers like “Music = Life” and “Free Tibet,” but they’ve never left Ohio.
13. They ask, “Any requests?” and immediately reject yours with “I don’t really do that one.”
14. They hum “Hotel California” as a lullaby. You stare at the stars wondering how it came to this.
15. By the end of the trip, the guitar mysteriously disappears. Legend says it’s still at the bottom of the lake. And peace was restored.
