New Delhi Nonsense

Curry, Chaos, and Car Horn Concertos

Visiting New Delhi is like stepping into a cooking show, a car chase, and a spiritual retreat all at once. It’s spicy, noisy, overwhelming, and completely unforgettable. Here are 15 hilarious travel observations from India’s capital of organized disarray and unfiltered charm.

1. You exit the airport and are immediately hit by a wall of heat, spice, and negotiations for a taxi.

2. Traffic here follows the law of vibrations. Lanes are optional, horns are mandatory, and cows have right of way — even on roundabouts.

3. You try street food. Your soul ascends during a bite of chaat. Then descends six hours later into digestive purgatory.

4. Every monument charges you foreigner prices. You pay 10 times more to be stared at by a squirrel on the Red Fort wall.

5. You attempt to cross the road. A rickshaw, bus, and camel come at you. You survive on instinct and divine intervention.

6. You buy a kurta to blend in. Locals still clock you as a tourist from three kilometers away and offer you ten more kurtas.

7. The Metro is spotless, efficient, and air-conditioned. You ride it once and become emotionally dependent on it.

8. Every conversation begins with “Where are you from?” and ends with tea and the possibility of marriage.

9. You visit a temple. It’s serene until you’re caught in a crowd of 400 people chanting, clapping, and blessing your backpack.

10. Stray dogs, goats, and monkeys coexist with traffic better than you do. One monkey steals your snack. You let him keep it out of respect.

11. You visit India Gate. A balloon vendor, 16 children, and a guy with glowing fidget spinners greet you. You buy all three.

12. Rickshaw drivers know shortcuts Google Maps fears. You hang on as he narrowly avoids a pothole and a philosophical conversation about karma.

13. The power goes out mid-shower. You dry off with spiritual detachment and a towel damp from existential humility.

14. Every local has a cousin in Toronto. You now do too. He’s messaging you on WhatsApp about visa tips.

15. Delhi roars, laughs, honks, and feeds you until you forget what day it is. You leave dazed, full, and oddly homesick for a place you just met.
