Dubai Delirium

Gold, Gadgets, and Guilt-Free Air Conditioning

Visiting Dubai is like entering a sci-fi mall powered by oil, ambition, and air conditioning that could preserve mammoths. It’s surreal, shiny, and surprisingly humid in a city made entirely of luxury and construction. Here are 15 hilarious travel observations from the emirate where skyscrapers outnumber clouds.

1. The airport is the size of a minor country and somehow contains more Rolex ads than clocks.

2. Every taxi is cleaner than your last Airbnb. You consider moving in. The driver offers Wi-Fi and mango juice.

3. You visit the tallest building in the world and take 47 blurry selfies from the 124th floor before realizing it has 163.

4. Public transport is spotless, fast, and blessedly cold. Outside, the heat makes your eyebrows surrender.

5. You try dune bashing. It’s like a rollercoaster in a sandstorm. You scream. The driver giggles and accelerates.

6. Every restaurant offers “gold leaf” options. You order gold pasta and briefly question capitalism before Instagramming it.

7. Malls here contain aquariums, ski slopes, dinosaur fossils, and enough perfume to knock out a rhino. You buy socks and question reality.

8. You try bargaining at a souk. You leave with a lamp, five scarves, and a vague sense you’ve been gently robbed.

9. There’s no litter anywhere. You drop a receipt and a falcon dives down and returns it to you with judgment.

10. You get invited to brunch. It lasts six hours, includes lobster, DJs, and a chocolate fountain bigger than your Airbnb.

11. You wear shorts and immediately feel underdressed among flowing abayas and three-piece suits. Even toddlers have Rolexes.

12. Local laws are strict. You google everything before sneezing in public.

13. You ride a camel for a photo op. It glares at you like you’ve interrupted its podcast. You apologize.

14. You tour the desert at sunset. It’s majestic. You take a deep breath. Sand enters your lungs and becomes a permanent roommate.

15. Dubai is luxury, lava heat, and laws. You leave sunburned, overstimulated, slightly poorer, and absolutely sure your next car should be a gold-plated Land Rover.
