Fifteen Ways to Sweat, Pray, and Mispronounce Delhi

Visiting Delhi? Get ready for a full-body experience — and we mean that literally. Here are 15 brutally honest, stand-up-worthy travel observations that will leave you laughing, cringing, or Googling “how to survive spicy food poisoning.”

1. The second you land in Delhi, the air quality slaps you like an affectionate aunt — loving, but slightly toxic.

2. Delhi belly isn’t a myth. It’s a rite of passage. You eat one street samosa and your intestines file for divorce.

3. Auto rickshaw drivers have PhDs in haggling and will quote you a price based on your sunscreen SPF.

4. You’ll spend 30 minutes at India Gate, and 4 hours trying to cross the street without becoming urban naan.

5. Every historical monument requires a ticket, a body scan, and the patience of a monk. Locals pay 10 rupees. Tourists pay their self-esteem.

6. Cows. Everywhere. Traffic-stopping, selfie-bombing, judgmental cows. One stared into my soul while I jaywalked.

7. “Mild spice” in Delhi is a war crime in Canada. Your tongue will hallucinate and speak Hindi out of fear.

8. Someone will invite you to their cousin’s wedding. You will attend. You’ll leave with glitter in your teeth and 3 kilograms of borrowed fabric.

9. Delhi’s metro is clean, efficient, and more crowded than your browser tabs.

10. Every tuk-tuk ride feels like a Fast & Furious audition, minus the seatbelts and with bonus goat crossings.

11. You’ll get henna on your hand, then realize you can’t touch anything for 7 hours. Including your dignity.

12. Locals will ask where you’re from, then tell you about their uncle who once went to “Chi-kah-go.”

13. Monkeys rule the rooftops. One stole my sunglasses. I saw him wearing them two days later, judging me.

14. You’ll visit the Lotus Temple for inner peace but leave with 87 photos of yourself trying to look “spiritual.”

15. Delhi gives you everything — heat, history, chaos, and heartburn — and still dares you to say you didn’t have the time of your life.

Delhi: the only city where your chakras align from dodging both cows and existential dread. Namaste, and pass the yogurt.
