Cairo Craziness

Pyramids, Pigeons, and Pharaoh-Level Honking

Visiting Cairo is like riding a time machine powered by car horns and mint tea. It’s ancient, loud, sandy, and somehow always five minutes from a family wedding. Here are 15 hilarious travel observations from Egypt’s bustling capital of contradictions and car alarms.

1. The pyramids are majestic — and right next to a Pizza Hut. You contemplate eternity with stuffed crust in hand.

2. Crossing the street is a leap of faith. There are no lanes, only vibes. You lock eyes with a bus driver and make peace with your gods.

3. Every local tries to sell you something. Papyrus scroll? Camel ride? Magic scarab? You leave with all three and a free curse.

4. The Nile is iconic. You take a romantic cruise and get serenaded by a guy with a broken oud and strong cologne.

5. The Egyptian Museum is full of priceless artifacts and labels written by a sleep-deprived archaeologist in 1972.

6. You try to speak Arabic. You accidentally tell a vendor that your uncle is a banana. He laughs. You bond.

7. Cairo traffic has no rules. Your Uber is a donkey cart with Bluetooth. You tip extra for the soundtrack.

8. You eat koshari, a carb volcano of rice, pasta, lentils, and fried onions. You cry. You eat more.

9. Desert heat is dry, but your armpits still resemble the Nile Delta. Locals wear long sleeves and judgment.

10. Cats are everywhere. One steals your shawarma and dares you to chase it. You don’t. You respect its hustle.

11. You visit a mosque and are overwhelmed by beauty — and also by your socks, which now feel deeply unholy.

12. You try bargaining at the bazaar. You walk away proud, then Google what you paid. Congratulations, you now own the world’s most expensive miniature pyramid.

13. Public restrooms range from royal marble to “bring your own bucket.” You come prepared. You still cry.

14. Every shop has “authentic antiques.” You find a vase stamped “Made in Ohio.” You buy it anyway.

15. Cairo confuses, charms, sunburns, and sandblasts you. You leave with a suitcase full of spices, two new relatives, and a story for every honk.
