Tokyo Travel Fails

The Sushi Was Great Until It Moved

Visiting Tokyo is like stepping into the future while simultaneously offending it. You land thinking you’re cultured because you once had instant ramen, only to be greeted by a toilet that speaks better English than you do. It’s not just heated — it plays Bach while analyzing your regrets.

You try to blend in by bowing, but miscalculate the angle and knock heads with a businessman who was just trying to buy a Pocari Sweat. You get lost in Shibuya Crossing and briefly consider building shelter there. At a sushi bar, you proudly shout “Omakase!” and then panic when the chef hands you something that’s still twitching. You smile, chew bravely, and pray it doesn’t come back for revenge.

You visit a shrine for serenity, but a tour group of elderly Australian hikers turns it into a drum circle. You flee to a robot café where a machine dressed as a maid dances while serving you neon waffles. You tip it. It says “arigato” and you fall in love for 3.6 seconds.

Your final day is spent trying to use a vending machine to buy a coffee, but it gives you hot corn soup instead. You accept it. This is Tokyo: confusing, beautiful, efficient, and likely judging you silently through a Hello Kitty mascot. And honestly? You love it anyway.
